'Useful: a step by step guide to the understanding of generative number in form'
Is a 100 page step by step diagram that leads the viewer through point line and plane and hopefully beyond
via the first 11 polygons in Euclidean space and their interrelationships within one integrated beautifully
unfolding diagram. This diagram is said to be the fundamental starting point of understanding Pythagorean
Geometry, pattern construction, Sacred Geometry, architecture, painting composition and irrational numbers.
You name it, its in there if one chooses to look for it. To quote from a recent sit-down with the author;
"I set out in 2005 to work through this problem and realized in doing so that there was no book out there
that will lead one through the process. Some seem to consider it some sort of 'secret', others assume that it
is easily understood high school geometry. Being an artist and visually leaning I was looking for a book
where the words were not in the way of the visuals. I also found the practice a form of deep meditation which
has brought a profound calm to my world. I encourage the practitioner to work through the problem from
start to finish and uncover the beauty I discovered. It is not difficult, one needs only a pencil a straight
edge, and a compass. I have found it as the title mentions profoundly useful in many areas, as an artist. I
hope others do as well."
Avail yourself of the in depth research undertaken for this publication, as the artist traveled to Granada
Spain in 2009 in order to study with Keith Critchlow, a student of Buckminster Fuller at the Alhambra. During
his time in Granada Martin Bland was able to not only undertake a study of the palace itself with all its
wondrous geometries but was provided a crash course in Sufism, The Unity of Being, and Pythagorean
philosophy as part of the study of Pythagorean geometry. This book uses those methods and undertakes
the reintroduction of geometry as handed down by the teachings of Theon of Smyrna, who was fairly
deliberately stricken from the history books by Nineteenth Century historians using a purgative form of what
was considered the scientific method.
